Lessons 01-20

There are seven Demon Lords and each of them are ranked based roughly on the order of their birth:

Lucifer, Avatar of Pride
Mammon, Avatar of Greed
Leviathan, Avatar of Envy
Satan, Avatar of Wrath
Asmodeus, Avatar of Lust
Beelzebub, Avatar of Gluttony
Belphegor, Avatar of Sloth

Satan is the fourth born of the Seven Demon Lords. Although Satan was given physical form last in his family, he manifested in Lucifer's consciousness sometime before the fifth born, Asmodeus, was born. He was conscious inside of Lucifer and saw the world through Lucifer's eyes every now and then. Therefore, at the time of his physical birth, Satan already had an understanding of who his brothers were and the relationship between them, the Celestial War, and their sister Lilith who was a casualty of the war.

Despite being physically born last, he is ranked fourth in power and birth order, which lands him squarely in the middle of his brothers. While his six brothers were originally angels in the Celestial Realm, Satan's physical birth occurred after their Fall. It was during The Fall that his brothers fell into the Devildom and lost their angelic forms, becoming demons. Lucifer, the oldest of the brothers and the one who led the rebellion against their father before the Fall was filled with so much wrath toward his father that it resulted in his anger physically manifesting as Satan. This makes Satan the only one of his brothers who was never an angel and the only one of his brothers not created by the others' father, who is strongly implied to be the god of the canon.

Initially after his birth, the only thing Satan was able to understand and express was anger. Over time and through interacting with his brothers, Satan was able to develop a stronger sense of self and learned to express more complex emotions. Lucifer spent the most time with Satan, causing the better part of Satan's personality to be very similar to Lucifer's. Knowing that he would not exist without Lucifer, Satan developed a complex toward Lucifer and hated very idea of being "part" of Lucifer. Satan grew to especially hate being compared to Lucifer in any way, perceived comparison or otherwise. Because of this, Satan developed a bit of a rebellious side in which he followed all the rules presented to him except when it involved Lucifer. Most people would expect a fragment of Lucifer to behave as Lucifer would, so Satan felt that being rebellious in this manner would set them apart.

For an indeterminate amount of time, Satan attended RAD (Royal Academy of Diavolo) as a student and student council officer along with his brothers. RAD is run by Lord Diavolo, the crowned prince of the Devildom and its current ruler while the actual Demon King slumbers beneath the Devildom. Up until this point, nothing particularly uneventful happened until it was announced that RAD would be hosting an exchange program where two humans and two angels would be coming to the Devildom for one year as exchange students. It was through this exchange program that Satan and his brothers met the protagonist of the canon, default name Yuki. The other human exchange student was Solomon, a well-versed sorcerer who already had a pact with Satan's brother Asmodeus. The two angel exchange students were Luke and Simeon. Throughout the exchange program, Luke, Simeon and Solomon all lived in Purgatory Hall while Yuki lived in the House of Lamentation with the brothers.

It is implied that Satan had been fairly static for however many years he'd been alive at this point, but meeting Yuki allowed him (and his brothers) to begin to change in ways he and his family never expected. Lucifer introduced Satan to Yuki as someone whose smile belied his darker personality and Satan agreed with this assessment. Satan was initially aloof toward Yuki, not really taking much interest in them until they began to form pacts with Satan's brothers. The first pact was with Mammon, followed by Leviathan, Beelzebub and Asmodeus.

Lucifer was visibly growing concerned with how casually his brothers were making pacts with Yuki and Satan, familiar with Lucifer's mindset, caught onto this. Wanting to make Lucifer's life more difficult, Satan volunteered to make a pact with Yuki as well. This sparked an argument between Lucifer and Satan, during which Lucifer called Satan ungrateful for the kindness he had been shown. Their argument culminated in Lucifer demanding for Satan to leave the House of Lamentation and Satan being glad to oblige.

While trying to decide which of his books to take with him, Satan ended up touching one of (!) his cursed books. The book made it so that Satan was inside of Lucifer's body and vice versa. It was through this forced interaction that the two of them were able to work together and came to understand each other a little more. It was also at this point that Satan's hatred of Lucifer softened considerably. Even when presented with multiple opportunities to destroy Lucifer's reputation or humiliate him, Satan ultimately decided not to pursue those avenues. After the switched body experience, Satan felt a little more confident that they were distinctly two separate individuals. Satan also realized that he did actually care about Lucifer in spite of his anger, and knew that Lucifer must care for him to some degree as well.

After Satan and Lucifer returned to their own bodies, Satan once again suggested making a pact with Yuki, prefacing the suggestion with the fact he wasn't trying to make Lucifer angry this time. Yuki accepted his offer and a pact was made.

Shortly after this point, everyone discovered that Yuki was, to the shock of no one, not an ordinary transfer student. She was the descendent of Lilith, the younger sister to all of the Demon Brothers and whose death sentence sparked the Celestial War that ended in their Fall. Lucifer was then pressed about what really happened during the war. Finally, Lucifer revealed that Lilith hadn't actually died in the Celestial War and that he had begged Diavolo to save his sister. Diavolo did so, but in a roundabout way through sending her to the human world as a human with no memories of her life in the Celestial Realm. Hundreds of years later, Yuki was born, making her a human with angelic lineage who also eventually come to control seven of the Devildom's most powerful demons.

After Yuki made the pact with Satan, they also made pacts with Belphegor and lastly with Lucifer so that they had pacts, the final two missing pacts of the Seven Demon Lords. After the school year ended, Yuki and the other human transfer student Solomon returned to the Human World while the two angels, Simeon and Luke, returned to the Celestial Realm.

Lessons 21-40

The transfer students were gone for some indeterminant amount of time, probably just a few weeks to a few months. The brothers took turns calling Yuki so as not to overwhelm them with how much they were missed. Eventually, Solomon used his magic to return to the Devildom with Yuki in tow, although he doesn't share his reasoning -- which makes absolutely everyone suspicious of him.

Several shenanigans ensue, such as the Gold Hellfire Newt Syrup incident in which Yuki was able to put their pacts with the Demon Brothers to good use, as only a human who had a pact with a demon afflicted by the effects of the syrup could stop the effects. Satan was one of the first to discover what those effects actually were and how to stop the effects, but his knowledge of it didn't stop him from being affected. There is also a short plot of Simeon and Luke inviting Yuki to the Celestial Realm for a visit, while most of the brothers seem eager to go as their guest. While a brief scene, it does demonstrate that there was some nostalgia for the Celestial Realm from all of the brothers -- except Satan, of course. Even though he did see the Celestial Realm when he was just a conscious thought inside of Lucifer, he was never an angel and didn't have the same sentimentality toward the Celestial Realm, its culture or its food as the other brothers.

Other events include the House of Lamentation turning into an Escape Room styled game thanks to Leviathan's game, to the point it takes a few of them 30 minutes or more to find the student council room, with Satan being quick to point out it only took him 20 minutes in order to get that extra dig in at Lucifer. There is also a play put on by the student council officers, re: The Demon Brothers. While it spans a few chapters, its main significance is highlighting the relationship of the brothers, how quickly they get under each others' skin, but also how quick they are to make amends with one another.

After a few more minor events that don't really affect the overall plot or Satan, Beelzebub ends up breaking a vinyl record that belonged to a Reaper, otherwise known as Thirteen. Knowing that Thirteen probably knows it's been broken and that Beelzebub is responsible, the brothers decide to check up on Beelzebub's life candle to ensure that Thirteen isn't too mad. In order to get through the Reaper's Cave where she lived, the brothers had to go through several levels, with each level changing in appearance and ruleset. The consequence of breaking the rules was to be transformed into a Little D, which is basically a miniature, shadowy, demonic blob with horns.

Level 1 of the Reaper Cave had the rule of Don't Look Back. The cave tempted the brothers through its use of auditory hallucinations of what what was most precious to them. While Mammon for instance hears Yuki's voice from behind him and Leviathan hears the voice of fictional character Ruri-chan, the thing that Satan hears is the tiny sound of a kitten mewling. Satan is initially able to resist, being able to reason that the cat isn't actually there because they're all hearing something different.

Level 2 of the Reaper Cave had the rule of Don't Touch. In this level, Satan mistakes a smudge on Mammon's hand for Midas' Crest. It was said that the bearer of said crest could turn anything they touched into gold. Satan's mistake immediately led to Mammon touching things to turn them into gold, for which Satan didn't apologize. However, karma was quick to work as a small, fragile kitten mewled in a weak voice. Knowing Satan's weakness for cats, the group feigned meowing and Satan called them out for trying to trick him into thinking the cat's cry came from one of them. Unable to resist scooping the cat up into his arms once he sees the kitten, Satan was also transformed into a Little D. When Lucifer called him out, mocking him for succumbing to his temptation, Satan made no apologies and quite firmly stated that no one would be able to resist scooping up a kitten who'd only just opened its eyes and was crying out in fear.

For the rest of the cave, Satan quickly figured out that he (and the others who are Little Ds) could break the rules since they couldn't be turned into Little Ds twice. This is especially evident in Level 3, which was No Talking. As soon as Satan and the others saw what type of room they walked into, they knew Asmodeus would be tempted and Satan yelled for someone to cover Asmodeus' mouth, but it comes too late.

By the time they get to the area where all of the Candles of Life are, it's just Yuki, Solomon, Beelzebub and Lucifer who have not been turned into Little Ds. They note that Beelzebub's candle is nearly extinguished, most likely due to the Reaper's anger over what Beelzebub had done. Lucifer takes his own candle and pours its melted wax on top of Beelzebub's candle, and the other brothers follow suit so that their candles are mostly even. Mission accomplished, everyone returned home and those who were turned into Little Ds were given their form back.

Shortly after everyone returned to the House of Lamentation, Lucifer collapsed after complaining all day of the headaches his brothers were causing him. When he came to, Lucifer had no memory of anyone at all, and had reverted to how he had acted and spoke while in the Celestial Realm. This caused great alarm, and the brothers did what they could think of to jog Lucifer's memory. Nothing seemed to work though, and some of them admit they liked Lucifer a bit more like this since he was more honest and much nicer. Cementing the fact that his body swap experience with Lucifer really had softened him considerably, Satan was very clearly concerned over Lucifer's wellbeing. He even warned Lucifer not to play cards with Mammon, knowing Mammon's intention was to squeeze Lucifer's bank account dry.

While this was going on, Solomon and Diavolo discovered that the natural disasters happening in the Celestial Realm, the Devildom and the Human world were all because of Yuki's unstable power. This was the real reason Solomon returned to the Devildom with Yuki. The only surefire way to stop disasters from happening was for Yuki to sever their bond with the brothers, which would eliminate the power she wielded over them. This would be permanent, as pacts cannot be re-forged once broken. All of the brothers go to Yuki to let them know that even if they must sever their pacts, they will still care greatly about Yuki no matter what. This doesn't come to pass, though, as Simeon was able to retrieve (re: steal) Lucifer's Ring of Light, which is able to stop Yuki's powers from being so destructive.

With everything settled, Solomon prepared to take Yuki back to the human world with the promise that he would teach Yuki summon magic so they could summon the brothers whenever they wanted. To do so, each of the brothers needed to give Yuki something that was precious to them. Satan decided to give Yuki the cursed book that body-swapped him and Lucifer, stating that although the book is powerless now, it is proof of his mended relationship with Lucifer and how he has grown emotionally.

Not wanting Yuki to go, the brothers do end up kidnapping Yuki and running away with them. Even Lucifer, who has at this point regained his memory, was on board. However, they're all caught and Lucifer is disappointed that they came up with such a scheme, only for them to execute it so poorly. Yuki, Solomon, Luke and Simeon all departed once again while the brothers eventually planned to meet up with Yuki at Serenity Manor in the human world.

Personality:

• Although he is the Avatar of Wrath, he puts in a significant amount of effort to not come off as angry. He puts on a good nature, and although he is easily irritated, he doesn’t truly become angry unless his brothers poke and prod him too much.
• Initially, a lot of his smiles and good nature are fabricated. However, by Lesson 40 he has chilled out and his smiles and reactions are more genuine.
• When Satan is truly mad, he goes from 0 to 100 very quickly. The easiest way to see this is to compare him to or mistake him for Lucifer. [see here] The quickest way to calm him down is by showing or mentioning cats to him.
• Satan is obsessed with cats. He takes pictures of his brothers and himself to utilize cat filters, takes selfies with cats, feels right at home at a cat café…. Cats are indeed his greatest love and greatest weakness.
• Speaking of cats, his brothers often compare him to a cat. He shows up in unexpected places, can be aloof and usually has little trouble getting people to warm up to him.
• He is level-headed and logical most of the time and tends to be very frank with how he speaks. He loves being able to strategize but is frustrated when Lucifer outmaneuvers him so easily 99.9% of the time.
• Satan is someone who abides by the rules, even as his brothers are causing endless amounts of chaos. The exception is when it comes to Lucifer – he can and will break any rule that Lucifer puts in place just to make Lucifer’s life difficult.
• He does very well in school, although that’s sort of unfair given that he and his brothers are all over a thousand years. He does so well that Lucifer asks Satan to tutor Yuki, and his brothers ask him for tutoring as well, sometimes indirectly.
• Satan is someone who feels he won't be respected unless he knows All The Things which has resulted in his room basically becoming a library. His go-to when he doesn't know something is to consult a guide or reference book.
• He and his brother Belphegor are part of the Formerly Anti-Lucifer League, in which the two of them frequently get together to prank Lucifer. It’s usually harmless. Sometimes they pull Yuki into their shenanigans.
• Satan has broad interests and is willing to listen to someone talk about anything. This helps him make a lot of connections, but most of them are shallow or superficial. He’s not afraid of small talk and is happy to engage in it.
• Even by Lesson 40, his Lucifer Complex has not gone away entirely. Although taken from Lesson 41, Lesson 58 goes over the brothers’ greatest fears. While Mammon and Leviathan’s greatest fear is an angry Lucifer in his demon form, Satan’s greatest fear is Lucifer in his angelic form from Lucifer’s time in the Celestial Realm. Such a form reminds Satan that he was born of Lucifer and causes him to doubt if he really is any more than Lucifer’s shadow since they’re so similar.
o Lucifer himself reminds Satan that they are different. They are separate individuals with different tastes. For instance, Lucifer prefers dogs (Cerberus) to Satan’s love of cats, and while he prefers classical cursed records, Satan prefers symphonies.
o It is ironic that Lucifer, the one that Satan is most like, is the one who was able to remind Satan of his individuality. Whether Satan likes it or not, Lucifer does care for him and does know him quite well.
• Satan considers it fun to torture human children who wrong him, thinking that running off in tears is what they deserve for making a fool of him. He doesn’t dislike humans in general, though, but he absolutely will take the opportunity to terrify them if they slight him.
• Because his brothers know the lengths Satan will go to in order to terrify humans, they are afraid Satan might target them for things like literally tearing their faces off. However, Satan’s target for torture is virtually always Lucifer. Even though his brothers annoy him, Satan doesn’t typically try to do anything particularly dangerous to them.
• Out of the seven Demon Brothers, Satan is the second best with magic after Lucifer (of course), although he is perhaps tied with Belphegor. Magic comes easily to him, and he enjoys reading up on it. However, despite his skillset, he is no match for Lucifer who can easily detect and remove curses with hardly a wave of his hand.
• While Mammon is the family punching bag, Satan firmly believes that Mammon is a decent person, perhaps more decent than the rest of them. Despite Mammon’s horrible behavior, he can see past it and understands that demons, like humans, are layered.

Abilities & Inventory:

Abilities
• Like all powerful demons, Satan has the ability to charm humans, animals and weaker demons. However, this is more of an informed ability as he is never seen actually doing this in canon.
• Although Satan spends most of his time in a human form, he and his brothers all have their separate demon forms. It can be an indicator that one of them has lost control of their emotions. However, it is also the form they take when attending formal events.
• When angry enough to slip into his demon form, the force of his emotions can be strong enough to blow people back or destroy nearby objects. This is a pretty fair comparison to dreamotion energy.
• Satan is fairly adept at magic, ranging from silly magic such as making two people hold hands to more advanced magic such as casting and removing curses.
• As a demon, Satan is able to form pacts with humans. He currently has one pact with Yuki.
o Pacts can only be formed between a demon and a human
o The human pact maker can summon the demon to their side at any given time
o Pacts allow the human to call on their demon's power to fortify their own power as well as increase the demon's power when the pact is invoked
o This isn't an ability I expect to use in Songerein as pacts aren't something that are made lightly

Inventory
• The clothes on his back
• His D.D.D., which is like a stylized smartphone. It probably won't work in this world, but it will serve as a friendly reminder of all the cute cat image boards he's not able to view from here.

Suitability & Plans: Because Satan is fairly independent, he can work well with or without castmates. I am interested in either getting to play him in a setting without Lucifer or further growing his relationship with Lucifer should a Lucifer app. I also would like for him to develop stronger friendships as the majority of his friendships are all pretty superficial. Thanks to Yuki, he thinks more positively about humans and so I'd like to see him branch out and make more friends.
